Descripción
Decumbent perennial herb from a fleshy rootstock; stems sparsely pubescent with minute appressed stellate hairs. Leaf blades mostly 24 cm long, more or less orbicular in outline, deeply digitately 3-7-lobed, the lobes pinnatisect, often secondarily divided, the lobes obtuse or acute, sparsely scabridulous (especially on nerves) glabrate above and beneath; petioles usually several times as long as the blades (except in the uppermost leaves). Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 5~15 cm long, shorter than to exceeding the subtending leaves; involucellar bracts 3, ca. 1 cm long, 2-3 mm wide, lanceolate to oblanceolate, ciliate, calyx 12-16 mm long, often with purple markings, more or less scabridulous; petals 15-30 mm long, burgundy (drying purple), obscurely fimbriate distally, densely hirsute on margins of claws, otherwise glabrous; styles 14-17. Fruits ca. 1 cm in diameter, disciform, sparsely strigose to glabrate, a ring of 14-17 mericarps around a central column, the long beaks in contact with the column, the mericarps dorsally rugose, indehiscent, long-beaked.
