Descripción
Decumbent perennial herb from a fleshy rootstock; stems pubescent, the hairs scattered, simple and stellate. Leaf blades mostly 2-5 (-8) cm long, more or less orbicular in outline but usually deeply digitately 3-7-lobed, the lobes toothed or pinnately lobed, obtuse or acute, sparsely pubescent with stellate hairs beneath, appressed simple hairs above; petioles usually much longer than the blades (except in the uppermost leaves). Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 4-20 cm long, usually exceeding the subtending leaves; involucellar bracts 3, 8-10 mm long, 0.5-2 mm wide, lanceolate, ciliate, calyx 13-20 mm long, green, prominently hirsute on the veins; petals 25-35 mm long, burgundy (drying purple), often finely fimbriate distally, pubescent on margins of claw, otherwise glabrous; styles 20-22. Fruits ca. 1 cm in diameter, disciform, more or less strigose, a ring of 20-22 mericarps around a central gap, the short beaks not meeting; mericarps dorsally rugose, indehiscent.
