Annual herbs or subshrubs up to 1 m tall, the stems often purplish, prominently pilose, the hairs mostly simple, 1.5-3 mm long. Leaf blades 1-3 cm long, orbicular or somewhat wider than long, cordate, coarsely dentate, obtuse or subacute, stellate-pubescent above and beneath; petioles 1-2 times the length of the blades. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils, sometimes forming a terminal raceme rising above the leaves; pedicels 1.5-6 cm long, usually exceeding the subtending leaves, pilose; involucellar bracts 6~10 mm long, filiform, ciliate; calyx 10-12 mm long, prominently stellate-pubescent (the hairs highly variable in size), ca. half-divided, the lobes ovate-acuminate; petals 15-25 mm long, lavender with a purplish spot at the base, ciliate on margins of claw, otherwise glabrous; staminal column 5 mm long, pallid, the filaments 2-3 mm long; styles 25-35. Fruits 9-12 mm in diameter, disciform, a ring of 25-35 mericarps around a central column; mericarps 3-3.5 mm in diameter, blackish, semicircular, indehiscent, prominently rugose.
