Description

Shrubs 1.5-2.5 m tall, densely stellate-pubescent. Leaf blades mostly 4-12 cm long, elliptic, ovate, or more or less lobed, truncate or cordate, crenate, acute or acuminate, densely and softly tomentose especially beneath, the leaf surface obscured by the tomentum; petioles mostly 1/4-1/2 the length of the blades. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils or grouped apically; pedicels 1-3 cm long; bracts of the involucel 8-9, subequal to the calyx or a little shorter, more than 1 mm wide, erect, lanceolate; calyx 10-15 mm long, tubular, yellowish; petals 3-3.5 cm long, red; androecium 4-6 cm long, exserted, glabrous, the filaments 1-2 mm long, the anthers few (10-25), purplish; styles and stigmas exserted from staminal column. Fruits 1 cmin diameter. Chromosome number unknown.A
