Descripción
Shrubs 1-3 m tall, the stems soft-puberulent, the hairs 0.1 mm long. Leaf blades mostly 4-10 cm long, almost as wide, ovate to broadly 3-lobulate, usually cordate (often deeply so), the sinus closed, coarsely crenate to undulate (or subentire), acute, discolorous, palmately 7-9-nerved, minutely and evenly stellate-pubescent above (the hairs 0.1 mm long), densely and softly stellate pubescent beneath (the hairs 0.3-0.4 mm long), discolorous; petioles 1/4-3/4 the length of the blades; stipules 5 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils or often grouped apically; pedicels 1-4 cm long, exceeding the subtending petioles, with pubescence like that of stem but often with longer hairs (0.5-1 mm) distally; involucellar bracts 8-9, 10-12 (~15) mm long, 2-4 mm wide, usually spatulate, acute, minutely stellate-puberulent (rarely also ciliate-margined, the cilia 1 mm); calyx 9-10 mm long, densely and minutely stellate-puberulent; petals 2-2.5 (-2.8) cm long, red, with minute glandular hairs and a few stellate hairs abaxially; staminal column exserted, slender, glabrous, sometimes red-purple, the filaments 1-1.5 mm long, the anthers ca. 20, purplish; styles exceeding the androecium, pubescent, free for only ca. 1 mm, the stigmas purplish, villous, crowded. Fruits ca. 8-9 mm in diameter, enclosed by the calyces. Chromosome number unknown.A
