Descripción
Erect (or scandent?) subshrubs or shrubs, 2-3 m tall, the stems often dark pigmented, subglabrous. Leaf blades mostly 6-10 cm long, strongly 3-lobed to hastate, progressively reduced upward, more or less cordate, crenate-serrate to subentire, acute to acuminate, essentially concolorous, glabrescent; petioles mostly 1/4-3/4 the length of the blades, shorter upward; stipules 2-6 mm long, filiform. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 1.5-5.5 cm long, slender, densely and minutely pubescent and sometimes also with a few long (1.5 mm) simple hairs; calyx 6-7 mm long, half-divided, stellate-pubescent and with spreading simple hairs 1.5-2 mm long, the lobes ovate-apiculate, with a prominent midvein; petals 10-14 mm long, 6-9 mm wide, erect, broadly obovate, red (drying rose) with a dark spot at base; staminal column 3.5-4 cm long, prominently exserted, glabrous (except at very base), antheriferous only at apex, the filaments 1-3 mm long, the anthers ca. 30, purple; styles 6-7, sometimes purplish, gradually swollen upward to clavate stigma.
