Subshrubs or shrubs 0.5-1.5 m tall, the stems viscid (often malodorous), often also with long (2 mm) simple hairs on stems. Leaf blades mostly 4-8 cm long (often smaller), ovate (rarely weakly lobulate), cordate, serrate to subentire, acute to acuminate, stellate-pubescent above and beneath, often viscid beneath, essentially concolorous; petioles 51 times the length of the blades. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils, usually in terminal leafy panicles; pedicels at least twice as long as the calyces; calyx 4-5 mm long, viscid; petals 5-7 mm long; styles 6-8. Fruits 5-6 mm in diameter, oblate, 6-8-celled, loculicidally dehiscent, stellate-pubescent, muticous; seeds 2 mm long, pubescent. Chromosome number: 2n = 28. A
