Descripción
Shrubs or subshrubs 0.5-1.5 m tall, with erect central stem and divergent branches more or less from the base, the stems minutely stellate-pubescent (hairs 0.1-0.2 mm) with glandular hairs intermixed, often purplish pigmented. Leaf blades 1-3 (-5) cm long, orbicular to ovate, cordate, crenate-dentate, obtuse to subacute, minutely and evenly stellate-pubescent above and beneath, the hairs 0.2- 0.3 mm in diameter, scarcely overlapping; petioles subequal to the blades. Flowers sometimes solitary in the leaf axils but usually forming a terminal, more or less leafless panicle; pedicels 1-4 cm long, slender; calyx 4-5 mm long, ca. half-divided, stellate-pubescent and with some glandular hairs intermixed; petals 12-15 mm long, pale orange; androecium pallid; styles 6-8. Fruits 6~9 mm long, 7-8 mm in diameter, sparsely pubescent, often purplish pigmented distally; mericarps 6-8, attached by basal thread dorsally, medially constricted to form 2 cells, the lower cell indehiscent, 1-seeded, coarsely reticulate laterally, the 6-8 areolae hyaline, the dorsal wall smooth basally, the upper cell dehiscing ventrally and dorsally, with 2 collateral seeds (or only one developing), prolonged beyond the seed cavity and forming broad wings; seeds 2.5 mm long, dark red-brown, densely echinulate.
