Descripción
Trailing herbs, usually with little pubescence. Leaf blades 1.5-4 cm long, about as wide, symmetrical, orbicular in outline, usually palmately 5-7-parted, lacking foliar nectaries; petioles 1-2 times the length of the blades; stipules 3-4 mm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, ovate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels usually shorter than the subtending petioles, more or less pubescent; bracts of the involucel 3, 4-5 mm long, distinct, lanceolate; calyx 5-7 mm long, pubescent, the simple hairs 1-2 mm long; corolla 6-8 mm long, dark orange, often with a red center, drying brick red; androecium included, yellowish, antheriferous at apex; styles 16-22, the stigmas capitate. Fruits schizocarpic, setose; mericarps 16-22, 5-6 mm long, green, maturing black, with 2 apical spines 1.5-3 mm long, divided into 2 cells by an endoglossum, each cell with one seed; the lower cell indehiscent, manifestly rugose, the upper cell dehiscent, smoother, pubescent; seeds ca. 1.5 mm long, with sparse minute pubescence.
