There are about seven species known from tropical America, but perhaps other species within Cheilanthes belong in Adiantopsis. Two species occur in Mexico. The group is only marginally distinct from Cheilanthes, being close to the C. microphylla group in its dark, sulcate axes, discrete sori, and echinate spores.A
